Week#17: Instructional Webpage

CREATING ANIMATED GIFS USING PHOTOSHOP

What is GIF?

Graphic interchange format (commonly known as GIF) is a popular image format used for small animations and short movie clips, which can be seen all over the internet.

GIF images are commonly used in Web design, Games, Powerpoints and many more.

Steps in creating animated GIF in photoshop:

Photoshop can also be used for creating some basic frame by frame animations. Of course, you dont really need to do these extra steps for creating a simple GIF image, but if you like to mess around with photoshop follow the steps below:

1. Import your photos in photoshop. Make sure they are sequenced accordingly

2. Open the “Timeline Window” by clicking on the Window Menu bar item

3. Click “Create Frame Animation” in the newly added pane to reveal the layers/frames.

4. Add the layers all together by clicking "Make frames from layers"

5. Choose the speed of the frame changes. Highlight each frame - right click and choose the delay time. You can also input a specific time (in seconds) by clicking others.

6. Once you are happy with the settings, click “File” > “Save for Web…” – then choose “GIF” from the side panel. Note you can also preview the animation by clicking the “play” button. Choose “Save” and give it a name.
